hi friends, welcome to the first artifact of leo season, throne room. artifacts are metaphorical poetic tools for engaging with different facets of your creative practice. you can think of them as prisms to look at your process through in a nonlinear, modular way. so feel free to dip in and out of each artifact, relate to them in different ways, turn them over in your mind, come back to one over time.
Leo is a sign of fixed fire, towards the end of summer, and it's ruled by the sun. I think of Leo as a way of relating to what it feels like to be in the light, to our own personal light and radiance — how do we grapple with the feeling of visibility, of being in the public eye, of showing up? how do we create safety and effortlessness in our creative expressions and in the act of being seen? being seen is a practice, it's a skill that we can cultivate over time.
how do we allow ourselves to share our true selves, to give from our inner radiance, to channel the energy of the sun, and express our creative urges and impulses as a form of generosity rather than with a fear of self-consciousness or selfishness?
so there's many ways that we are going to talk about Leo energy.
personally, as a scorpio stellium, Leo is not a sign that I relate to a lot. but I think that's precisely what makes Leo a juicy astrological sign for me to contemplate, because I am so comfortable in the darkness, in hiding in my underwater caves, that it is taking me years to see how the non-duality of showing up in the light in leo energy is actually the same truth as being in the dark. they are in opposition and counterbalance to each other. the sun must contain the shadow, and the shadow inherently contains the felt presence of the sun.
the thing that always comes to mind for me is: how can I show up in the light of public visibility in my creative expressions the same way that I would to myself alone in a dark room? how can I feel the same quality of safety and insulation, luxuriating in my own solitude, even when I'm speaking to an imagined audience?
over time, I've seen how Leo energy is not the opposite of my scorpionic energy, but the continuation, projection, and expansion of that energy outwards. we will be doing a lot of this movement between light and dark, visibility and retreat, and seeing how both are two sides of the same coin.
our first artifact of Leo season is throne room, which is essentially a space in a royal palace or castle where the ruler sits in order to receive guests and to hold ceremonial occasions. the room contains a raised platform with steps leading to a throne, a crown, perhaps a canopy above, and the decor and all the furniture and luxury of the room itself, which I imagine to be full of plush seating, delicious food, scented air. but more than anything, a throne room is where the crown resides.
the reason why I chose a throne room rather than a crown for this artifact of leo is because a crown is something you can take on or off. you can lose it. you can fight for it. you can feel unworthy of the weight of the crown on your head. whereas a throne room is a place that you enter. therefore, it's a place that can live inside of you. you can make a throne room feel like home. you can decorate it as a space that can hold the essence of you. a throne room is where you go in order to reside, to inhabit, to feel supported by your inherent power and sovereignty.
the purpose of this artifact is to support you in creating an energetic space where you feel held by your inherent sense of sovereignty, inner abundance, infinite radiance, and to help you express and share that generosity outwards into the world.
the guiding question is: what would it feel like in your body and being to exist, create, and share from the power source of your throne room? what does your throne room look and feel like? and how would you create and exist and express yourself from that energetic place?
we'll use this artifact to explore the core themes of Leo around sovereignty, radiance, visibility and being seen, and generosity of spirit — what it means to move from your heart center.
