introduction

hi friends,

welcome to the third artifact of Virgo season.

after we worked with threading the and right-sized containers with , I'd like to bring our attention to Virgo as an archetype of the natural healer — paying attention to the body, to the practical nature of its symptoms and ailments, and the creativity of the healing arts.

I find that my favorite Virgo friends are always offering me different types of herbal teas, or saying things like, "I think a walk would be good for you. I think lunch would be good for you."

meanwhile, I'm spiraling in some unfixable problem in my head. there is so much regulation in the small, daily, mundane tasks. sometimes I forget that when we focus on the body, on the nervous system, the complex problems just feel less sharp-edged. they feel softer and easier to hold.

today's artifact, Tinctures, is essentially the distillation of that practice. a tincture is a concentrated herbal extract, made from soaking herbs and plants in a solvent — usually alcohol or vinegar — for a few weeks, to create the most concentrated version of it. then you can take the tincture anytime, in the form of droplets.

a tincture is the most distilled, absorptive form of a healing energy, concentrated as a micro practice that you can absorb anytime throughout your day.

the purpose of this artifact is to practice skillful attunement to your bodily signals, and to work with energetic resourcing — because essentially, the medium that we are working with through any practice is that of energy and intention. here we will practice the precision of meeting ourselves in every moment, giving to ourselves the care that we need through the distilled essence of a micro practice.

the guiding question is: how can I practice noticing the signals of my internal landscape, and take a moment to offer myself a potent distillation of the energy that I need?

tincture as antidote

to begin exploring this artifact, let's start by thinking about what a tincture is an antidote to, or what it is the opposite of. if a tincture is about healing, resourcing, supporting the internal ecosystem, then it is against a culture that is continually overriding the internal signals, feelings, sensations, in order to fulfill an external agenda, or putting pressure on the inner world to perform for validation out there, at all costs. the ultimate purpose of tinctures is to tend to the inner world, so that we can be more resourced to work with the complex challenges of our lives.

I'd like to explore this in three ways. the first is moving from mental labor and effort into embodied receiving. the second is to think about healing as a creative process. the third is to soak and feel the potency of a micro practice.
